I met the author at a writers conference, but don't know him. so this is really my honest two cents.Awake at 3am, I started this book. I had to muffle giggles into a pillow to not disturb my sleeping spouse. I failed. A writing group called "Writers Without Mercy"? Oh dear. And the drawings that accompanied the chapters made the characters appear even quirkier. Reads like poetry–some parts I read aloud. I groaned at some of the scenarios. I have only participated in one writer's group which used Jane Brunette's Writing From the Soul format. We shared what we wrote, but didn't critique our fellow writers. After reading "Dying to Write" I feel spared.

This book is a hoot. Full of the dry wit that the British are so famous for. Anyone who has ever sat in on a writing critique (workshopping) or support group will immediately identify with the odd assortment of characters and egos that Keeble so richly portrays. I laughed out loud several times.
Both the book title, "Dying to Write," and the cover illustration serve as tip-offs to the author's game.
Set in exotic Gulf of Thailand, at a low-budget expat hangout, John Keeble playfully introduces a menagerie of writers who regularly meet at an Italian restaurant.
Participating in my own writers group in Ecuador, I wanted to learn how the Thai group differed from my own.
What really appealed to me, was the humor in how the group's members met their fates. Just desserts?
The realistic climax to the mystery wrapped the story up to my satisfaction.
